What is the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

The Eko CORE Digital Attachment is an FDA cleared Bluetooth-enabled device that allows traditional stethoscopes to operate in both analog and amplified modes. Benefits of the CORE Digital Attachment include analog + amplified modes, up to 40x amplification, active noise cancellation, wireless Bluetooth functionality, and connectivity to the Eko App.

The CORE Digital Attachment is compatible with most popular stethoscope models from 3M™ Littmann®, ADC, WelchAllyn, MDF, and Medline with no tube cutting necessary.

What’s the difference between the 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope and the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

The Littmann® CORE Stethoscope is a 3M™ Littmann® Cardiology IV™ Stethoscope that is pre-assembled with the Eko CORE Digital Attachment. This stethoscope is manufactured and tested by 3M™ Littmann®. The CORE Digital Attachment is manufactured and tested by Eko and works with most traditional stethoscopes.

How does the Eko CORE Digital Attachment work for Bluetooth or wireless auscultation?

The Eko CORE Digital Attachment provides wireless functionality utilizing Bluetooth technology when using the Eko iOS and Android Apps. It pairs with Bluetooth-enabled headphones, hearing aids, and speakers. The Eko CORE Digital Attachment transmits sounds via Bluetooth with your stethoscope earpieces attached or unattached, making your stethoscope a wireless stethoscope.

Who is the Eko CORE Digital Attachment designed for?

Because the Eko CORE Digital Attachment is compatible with most single lumen traditional stethoscopes, it's built for use by any healthcare provider, including doctors, nurses, EMTs/first-responders, veterinarians, and students. (Note: The Eko CORE Digital Attachment will not work with double lumen stethoscopes such as the Sprague Rappaport.)

Is the Eko CORE Digital Attachment compatible with pediatric stethoscopes?

The Eko CORE Digital Attachment includes adapters to fit adult, pediatric, and infant (neonatal) stethoscopes, and is intended to be used with adult and pediatric patients.

Which analog stethoscopes are compatible with the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

The CORE Digital Attachment has been tested with 3M Littmann Cardiology II/III/IV, WelchAllyn Harvey Elite, Medline and ADC analog stethoscopes. It is compatible with most single lumen analog stethoscopes. (Please note that the Eko CORE Digital Attachment is NOT compatible with Sprague Rappaport-type, double lumen tube stethoscopes, or other digital stethoscopes.

I am having a hard time disassembling my analog stethoscope’s tubing! What can I do?

We recommend running the tubing under hot water for a minute. The hot water will soften and loosen the tubing material and make it significantly easier to pull away from the chestpiece.

Does the Eko CORE Digital Attachment help with hearing loss?

There are three primary ways the Eko CORE supports clinicians with hearing loss.

  • Amplified sounds help users hear low frequency sounds more clearly.
  • Visualizing sound waveforms (phonocardiograms) on the Eko App helps the user confirm the sounds they are hearing.
  • The Eko App pairs with Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids, cochlear implants, and streaming devices.

Is the Eko CORE Digital Attachment FDA-cleared?

Yes, the CORE Digital Attachment is FDA-cleared and CE Marked.

Is the Eko CORE Digital Attachment compatible with the Eko App & Platform?

Yes, the Eko CORE Digital Attachment pairs with the Eko App. Download the Eko App for free (for iOS from the Apple App Store, and for Android devices from the Google Play Store). The essential features of the Eko App are:

  • Wireless Bluetooth functionality
  • Visualize sounds in real-time

What is the warranty and return policy for the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

Holiday Return Policy- For the 2021 holiday season, items purchased between November 1st and December 31st can be returned until January 15, 2022.
For purchases made after July 20, 2020, the Eko CORE Digital Attachment comes with a 2-year warranty which is warranted against any defects in material and workmanship.

If you purchased the Eko CORE Digital Attachment prior to July 20, 2020, the Eko CORE Digital Attachment comes with a 1-year warranty against any defects in material and workmanship.All stethoscopes purchased on the Eko website are backed by a 100% refundable, 30-day trial. Returns are free. 

Can I use the CORE Digital Attachment on animals?

Yes, the CORE Digital Attachment is used by veterinarians on both small and large animals.

What is the battery life of the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

The Eko CORE Digital Attachment has up to 8 hours of battery life.

Which wireless headphones are recommended for the CORE Digital Attachment and Eko App for wireless listening?

Eko has not tested all wireless headphones or earbuds. However, we have tested these, and have found that they perform very well: Apple Airpods, Apple Airpods Pro, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, MPOW X3, Lypertek Tevi, Klipsh T5, Sony WF-XB700 and WF-1000XM3, and Boltune BT-BH020

Can I remove my stethoscope tubing from the 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope?

We do not recommend disassembling the stethoscope. The 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope is not designed to have the stethoscope tubing piece removed.

What is the 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope?

The 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope is the most advanced Littmann Stethoscope yet. It comes pre-assembled with a 3M™ Littmann® Cardiology IV™ Stethoscope and an Eko CORE Digital Attachment.

What’s the difference between the 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope and the Eko CORE Digital Attachment?

The Littmann® CORE Stethoscope is a 3M™ Littmann® Cardiology IV™ Stethoscope that is pre-assembled from a 3M Littmann Cardiology IV analog stethoscope with the Eko CORE Digital Attachment. This stethoscope is manufactured and tested by 3M™ Littmann®.

The Eko CORE Digital Attachment is manufactured and tested by Eko. Benefits of CORE include analog + amplified modes, 40x amplification, active noise cancellation, wireless Bluetooth functionality, and connectivity to the Eko App. The Eko CORE Digital Attachment can be purchased individually and is compatible with most popular stethoscope models from 3M™ Littmann®, ADC, WelchAllyn, MDF, and Medline with no tubing cutting necessary.

Does the 3M Littmann CORE digital stethoscope work for Bluetooth or wireless auscultation?

Yes, the Littmann® CORE Stethoscope provides wireless functionality utilizing Bluetooth technology when using the Eko App. It pairs with Bluetooth-enabled headphones, hearing aids, and speakers. We do not recommend cutting or ripping the tubing off the 3M Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope.

Does the 3M Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope help with hearing loss?

Is my mobile device or Windows computer compatible with the 3M Littmann CORE digital stethoscope and the Eko App?

Compatible mobile devices include Apple devices running iOS 12 or later, and Android devices running Android 10 and above. Compatible Windows computers should be running Windows 10 and above.

Does the 3M Littmann CORE digital stethoscope support the same wireless functionality as the Eko CORE digital stethoscope or Eko CORE digital attachment?

Yes, the 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope supports wireless auscultation using the Eko App and Bluethooth headphones or earbuds. The 3M™ Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope also pairs with select Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids when using the Eko App.

Which wireless headphones and earbuds are recommended* for the 3M Littmann CORE digital stethoscope and the Eko App for wireless listening?

Eko has not tested every Bluetooth headset or earbuds. However, Eko has testing these and found their performance to be very good: Apple Airpods, Apple Airpods Pro, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, MPOW X3, Lypertek Tevi, Klipsh T5, Sony WF-XB700 and WF-1000XM3, and Boltune BT-BH020.

DUO Digital Stethoscope + ECG FAQ

What is the Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope?

Eko DUO is a pocket-sized cardiac examination system used to electronically amplify, filter, and transfer body sounds and single-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms and facilitate timely care for patients in and out of the clinic. By combining ECG and auscultation, clinicians get more information at a glance without disrupting workflow or running costly tests. DUO is FDA-cleared that enables clinicians to capture, transmit, and analyze electromechanical information in as little as 15 seconds from the clinic or the comfort of patients’ homes.

The latest generation of DUO is optimized for a wireless workflow through enhanced Bluetooth connectivity with most wireless listening devices allowing clinicians to assess patients freely and untethered. DUO can still be purchased with removable earpieces to be used like a traditional stethoscope to meet any provider’s preference.

What are the differences between the 1st and 2nd generation DUO?

The 2nd generation DUO was introduced for sale by Eko on August 15, 2021. It offers improved ECG quality, sound quality, Bluetooth signal strength, and battery performance. It’s enhanced connectivity simplifies the workflow for clinicians who prefer to perform exams wirelessly. The 2nd generation DUO can also be purchased with earpieces for clinicians who prefer to use DUO like a traditional stethoscope.

What’s the difference between buying the DUO with or without earpieces?

DUO was designed for the versatility to listen and assess the way you want. You may choose to purchase DUO with or without earpieces. There are no limitations or compromises on utility or performance with either option. The choice is based entirely on the user's preference.

Both DUO selections come with a threaded 3.5 jack that accepts DUO Earpiece, wired headphones, or audio cable. DUO supports wireless listening with most Bluetooth headphones, hearing aids, and other audio devices. Even if you purchase DUO with an earpiece, you can detach the earpiece and connect to a Bluetooth-enabled device at any time.

Is the Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope analog or digital?

The Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope is only a digital stethoscope and cannot be used in analog mode like the Eko CORE or 3M Littmann CORE. The Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope amplifies up to 60x, with 12 volume settings and Bluetooth functionality so it can wirelessly connect with the Eko App.

Does the DUO work for Bluetooth or wireless listening?

Can the Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope be used in pediatrics?

The indication of use for Eko DUO is for patients over 10kg.

Can the DUO in veterinary medicine or on animals?

Yes, the Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope is used by veterinarians in both small and large animals.

Here are some tips to ensure you are getting the highest quality ECG readings for animals:

  1. Wet the fur with water
  2. Use ECG gel if wetting the fur doesn't help
  3. Always use the DUO on the least hairy spots (under the armpits usually work)
  4. Shave the hair in the area

Is the DUO analog or digital?

The DUO is only a digital stethoscope and cannot be used in analog mode like the Eko CORE stethoscopes. DUO amplifies the body sounds with 12 volume settings and Bluetooth functionality so it can wirelessly connect with the Eko App and Bluetooth devices.

What is Eko AI or Cardiac analysis?

Eko Analysis Software or Eko AI is FDA-cleared software that includes screening algorithms to assist clinicians in detecting suspected murmurs and AFib. A subscription may be required for AI-analysis.

Is the DUO compatible with the Eko mobile App & Platform?

Yes, the Eko DUO pairs with the Eko App. Download the Eko App for free for iOS and Android devices. The essential features of the Eko App are:

Can Eko be used for telemedicine, virtual, or home care?

Eko stethoscopes and software are purpose-built for telemedicine. Eko supports telemedicine programs for individual providers, small clinics and multi-site hospitals. A subscription may be required for telemedicine live streaming.

What is the DUO’s battery life?

The DUO can last up to 10 hours of continuous use on a full charge and has up to 1-year standby time.

What are the electrodes on the DUO made of?

The two ECG electrodes are made of stainless steel. They are designed to work dry, that is, without any gel or cream, however gels or creams can improve the signal quality in some situations.

Can the DUO with a pacemaker or ICD?

Eko DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope has not been tested for accuracy with ECG recordings taken from users with pacemakers or other cardiac implanted electronic devices.

Does Eko help with hearing loss?

There are three ways Eko stethoscopes support clinicians with hearing loss.

  1. Sound amplification helps users hear low frequency sounds more clearly. 
  2. Visualizing waveforms (phonocardiograms and electrocardiograms) on the Eko App helps confirm the sounds you are hearing and electrical signals you are seeing.

How do the free trials of Eko AI and Telehealth work?
