DUO™ ECG + Digital Stethoscope (2nd Gen) Overview and Care

The DUO ECG + Digital Stethoscope captures both heart and lung sounds and ECG. By combining ECG and auscultation, clinicians get more information at a glance without disrupting their workflow. It can be used to record heart sounds, bruits, respiratory sounds, and abdominal sounds during physical examination.

Assemble the DUO

Here's how to assemble your DUO stethoscope with the earpieces.

Plug the DUO Earpiece into the 3.5 mm audio port at the base of the DUO and tighten the threads.

Alternatively, you can choose to use wired headphones instead of the earpiece. To assemble with wired headphones, please follow the same assembly process for stethoscope earpieces.

You can also use the DUO as a hand-held device to visualize the phonocardiogram (PCG) and single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG).

Turn on and turn off the DUO

Here’s how it works:

Turn on

Press and hold the center button for 1 second to turn on your DUO. Once the device is on, you will see a ring of lights circling around the button and a blinking white light. Your device is now ready to pair with the Eko App or Dashboard and be used on a patient.

Turn off

To turn off the DUO, press and hold down the center button for 2 seconds. Once the device is off, the LED lights will disappear.

Standby mode

The DUO has a five minute standby mode to conserve battery life. The white light disappears when the DUO goes into standby mode. To turn the device back on, press and hold the center button for 1 second. The white blinking light appears to indicate the device is on.

Adjust the volume

DUO’s sound level can be amplified in 12 increments up to 32X amplification of an acoustic stethoscope when listening with the stethoscope earpieces. Change the volume level by clicking the top and bottom section of the volume button located on the side of DUO. The LED lights flash when adjusting the volume.

If you're using headphones to listen to the sounds through your mobile device, you’ll need to use your phone's volume adjustment to change the volume of audio coming through the headphones.

Note

Changing the volume on the DUO™ does not affect the volume of a recording on the Eko App running on your mobile device. The recording volume must be adjusted in the app or on the phone itself.

Charge the DUO

The DUO can last for up to 10 hours of continuous use with a full charge. To charge your DUO, it must be properly placed on the wireless charging pad.

  1. First, connect the charging pad to the power source using the included USB charging cable and power adaptor. An orange light illuminates at the top of the charging pad once it's plugged in.

  2. Place the DUO on the charging pad with the center button facing you. The LED lights flash and circle around the center button. This means that the device is charging. When fully charged, the lights will stop flashing.

When fully charged, the DUO lasts up to one year of battery life with the device on standby. We recommend turning the device OFF between each use to maximize battery time.

Note

The DUO™ will not turn on or connect to the Eko App or Dashboard while it’s plugged in and charging.

Care and cleaning

The DUO should be cleaned between each patient's use.

All external parts of the hardware can be cleaned with 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes.

Warning

DO NOT immerse the device in any liquid or subject it to any high-pressure/autoclave sterilization processes.

Change the audio filters

To change the filter settings on your DUO, turn the device on by pressing and holding the center button for two seconds.

Once the DUO is on, you can change the filter settings by pressing the center button three times quickly, in succession. This lets you switch between the four filter options. The light changes positions as you switch audio filters.

The four filter options and corresponding LED light positions are (see image below):

  • Diaphragm (heart sounds) (default mode)

  • Bell mode (heart and bowel sounds)

  • Mid-range mode (heart and some lung sounds)

  • Extended mode (heart and lung sounds)

Another way to change the audio filters is through App Settings in the Eko App.
