Guided Encounters in the Eko App

Guided encounters are only available with an Eko+ membership and some enterprise health system enablements.

The guided cardiac exam feature in the Eko App guides you through a 4-point cardiac assessment in these areas of the chest:

  • Left Upper Sternal Border (LUSB)
  • Right Upper Sternal Border (RUSB)
  • Left Lower Sternal Border (LLSB)
  • Cardiac Apex (APEX)

Overview

After pairing your Eko device with the Eko App, start a New Encounter and select Guided encounter. The Eko App then guides you through each auscultation position starting with the LUSB. Use the included visual as a placement reference. If you need to skip a position, tap Skip in the lower right corner.

The Eko AI analysis automatically checks for signs of heart disease at every position. Results show on the Encounter summary screen when all four positions are complete. From here, you can manage the encounter by assigning it to a patient, add tags, listen to the individual recordings, add notes, or share the encounter.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn on and connect the Eko device

The Eko App should automatically connect your Eko device via Bluetooth pairing after the first time you use the app. If you need help with connecting your device, see instructions here.

2. Start an Encounter and Adjust Settings

Adjust settings.pngWhen you start a New Encounter from the Eko App, the Freeform encounter tab is selected by default. Before switching to Guided, be sure to adjust:

  1. Audio Filters
  2. Workflow Settings

3. Start the Guided Encounter

guided encounter.jpgAfter making any adjustments on the Freeform encounters tab, switch to the Guided encounter tab to start the guided cardiac exam. If you selected to assign patients at the start of a guided encounter, you will first need to assign a patient before starting.

After placing the stethoscope in the appropriate position, the recording will begin automatically once a good signal is detected. If poor sound or ECG* signal is detected, you will see Poor Sound Signal or Poor ECG Signal* in the lower right corner of the position guide.

If at any time you wish to skip a position, tap Skip. If at any time you wish to stop the guided encounter, you can exit out by tapping the "X" in the top left to discard and switch back to Freeform.

4. Manage the Encounter

Guided Encounter summary.pngOnce the guided encounter is finished, you can review the findings from the Encounter summary screen, where you can assign a patient, add tags, review/listen to the recording from each position, add notes, and share the encounter.

If there are any recordings where the PCG or ECG* were too poor of quality to do AI analysis, you will have the option to retake the recording for that position.

When you are done, you can either Save the encounter in the top right corner of the screen, or Delete encounter on the bottom.
