Freeform Encounters in the Eko App

To start a Freeform Encounter from the Eko App, tap New Encounter at the bottom of the Encounters tab on the main screen of the Eko App. You can also start a new Freeform Encounter by taking a recording directly from your device when it is connected to the app (see the "Using Your Device" section for your Eko device for instructions).

Once a New Encounter is started, you can modify your workflow settings, change audio filters, and check other statuses prior to taking a recording:

  1. New Encounter 2.png

Freeform vs Guided Encounters - A Freeform Encounter allows you to take a single recording with your device, whereas a Guided Encounter will walk you through a four-point exam.

  2.  ECG and PCG Waveforms - See waveform visualizations in the app for ECG (three-point for CORE 500 and single for DUO) and PCG
  3.  BPM - Once a good sound signal has been established, the heart rate will be displayed here in BPMs.
  4.  Signal Status -
    1.  Poor Sound Signal indicates that the sound signal is too weak to calculate BPM or detect murmurs with AI analysis*.
    2.  Poor ECG Signal** indicates that the ECG signal is not strong enough to detect tachycardias with AI analysis*.
    3.  Good Signal indicates that a strong signal is detected for both sounds and ECG**
  5.  Audio Filters - Switch between Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Wide/All Purpose filters
  6.  Workflow Settings -
    1. Auto Record mode starts a recording automatically when a good signal is detected
    2. Assign patient at start asks for a patient to be assigned to the encounter prior to the recording starting
  7.  Record - After adjusting your workflow settings and audio filter, tap Record to begin a recording. The recording will stop automatically based on your recording length setting (if applicable). You can also tap Cancel at any time to cancel the recording.

Once the recording is finished, you can review the findings from the Encounter summary screen, where you can assign a patient*, add tags*, review/listen to the recording, add notes, and share the encounter*.

When you are done, you can either Save the encounter in the top right corner of the screen, or Delete encounter on the bottom.

*only available with Eko+membership and some health system enablements
**ECG is only available with the CORE 500 and DUO digital stethoscopes
