Welcome! You've found the perfect place to learn how to use your new CORE 500™. Here's how to get started.

Step 1: Download the Eko App

You’ll need to use the Eko App to finish the CORE 500™ setup. It's required to connect your stethoscope to the Eko App to unlock the device's full feature set. You’ll also need it to:

  • Visualize the 3-lead ECG.

  • Visualize the phonocardiogram (PCG).

  • Review and share recordings.

Step 2: Set up the CORE 500™

Here's how to assemble and get started with your CORE 500™.

Attach earpiece

  1. Plug the earpiece into the CORE 500™. The mark on the CORE 500™ socket should align with the right-side mark on the earpiece plug.

  2. Twist the earpiece clockwise with a quarter turn until it locks.

Detach earpiece

  1. Twist the earpiece counterclockwise with a quarter turn until it unlocks.

  2. Remove the earpiece from the CORE 500™.

Turn on

Press the top button.

Turn off

Hold the top button while pressing the volume-up button once to turn it off.

Once you see the confirmation screen, press the volume-up button again to confirm.

Wake from sleep

The CORE 500™ automatically goes to sleep after a short period of not being used. Pick it up on the neck of the chestpiece to wake it up. There is a black sensor on the underside of the device face's lip, under the volume button. Touching this will wake the device as you naturally grasp it.

Here's an example of one way to grasp the device so that the touch sensors wake it up.

Tip

You can turn off this setting in the Eko App. Here's how.

  1. In the Eko App, tap the Menu button on the bottom toolbar.

  2. Tap Eko device settings.

Charge the device

Connect the CORE 500™ to a power source using the included USB-C cable and a USB wall charger (not included). When unboxed, it will have enough charge to use right away.

Warning

The CORE 500™ can’t be used while it’s charging or if it loses battery power. It also can't connect to the Eko App or Dashboard while it's plugged in and charging.

Change the volume

Press the up or down buttons on the side of the CORE 500™to change the volume one increment at a time. Hold the up or down buttons to continuously increase or decrease the volume.

Important

ECG readings require contact with skin.

  • If the electrodes don’t make contact with skin, the lead indicator is gray.

Note

On the device, you’ll see the single ECG strip. We recommend using the Eko App to read and interpret the full 3-lead ECG.

Step 4: Finish setup with the Eko App

Finish setting up your CORE 500™ in the Eko App. See Get started with the Eko App.

Step 5: Take your first ECG

Here you'll learn to take your first ECG and recording. Make sure the CORE 500™ is connected to the Eko App first.

  1. Place the device on the skin, on the left upper sternal border (LUSB), next to the left sternum edge between the second and third ribs.

    In the LUSB position, the audio filter icon should be at the top, facing up.

  2. When you have good skin contact, the gray lead indicator turns green and has a check mark.

  3. The screen shows the heart rate and ECG waveform, with 2.2 seconds of data.

  4. Press the top button for 2 seconds or until you see the bars encircling the device interface light up green to indicate recording is in progress.

  5. If you have AI analysis turned on in the Eko App (it's on by default), you’ll see the results right on the screen. You can open the Eko App later to review the recording and analysis results.

Tip

We recommend using the Eko App to read and interpret the full 3-lead ECG.
