Eko Vet+™ | CANINEBEAT™ FAQs

Managing your Eko Vet+ Membership and Account

Is there a free version of Eko Vet+ that can be used without an Eko Vet+ membership?
You can take advantage of a free 14-day trial of Eko Vet+ when you first download the Eko Vet+ App, after which a membership is required to continue using the Eko Vet+ App.

Using the Eko Vet+ App

Can I use the same Eko login for the Eko Vet+ app that I use for the Eko app?
Yes. Eko logins are universal across all Eko platforms. Your access level within each platform will reflect what membership you have, but you do not need a separate account.
Can I use Eko Vet+ without an internet connection?
An active internet connection is required to process recordings through CANINEBEAT™ AI and generate reports. The app cannot perform AI analysis offline.
I upgraded my phone's operating system and now the app isn't working. What should I do?
Check that you are using the most recent version of the Eko Vet+ app. You can also delete the app from your phone and redownload it.
I can't connect my Eko device via Bluetooth. What should I try?

If you’ve previously used your Eko device with the Eko app (for humans), it may still be trying to pair with that app. To fix this, follow these steps to unpair your device from the Eko app and pair to the Eko Vet+ App:

  1. Go to the “Menu” tab in the Eko app, and select “Unpair”
  2. Turn off your Eko device, and close the Eko app
  3. Open the Eko Vet+ app, and go to the “Menu” tab
  4. Select “Pair”, and turn on your Eko device
Does the Eko Vet+ app work on a tablet?
The app was designed for smartphones. On an iPad, the app will function, but is not optimized for that screen size, so you may notice formatting irregularities. Non-iPad Android tablets may not be compatible.
Is the Eko Vet+ app available in languages other than English?
The Eko Vet+ App currently supports English only. Additional language support is not available at this time.
Does Eko Vet+ support ECG recording?
No. There is no ECG functionality in the Eko Vet+ app. If you are using a CORE 500, the ECG features on that device will not be available within Eko Vet+. Eko is exploring ECG functionality for future releases.
I am a veterinarian who treats multiple species, not just dogs. Can I still use the Eko Vet+ App?
Eko Vet+ and CANINEBEAT™ AI are designed exclusively for use on canines. The algorithm has not been validated for use on other species and should not be used on non-canine patients.

CANINEBEAT™ AI

The CANINEBEAT™ AI result doesn't match my clinical assessment. What should I do?
CANINEBEAT™ AI is a clinical decision support tool — it is not intended to replace your clinical judgment. Results should always be interpreted by professional veterinary judgment and are not a substitute for veterinary advice.
How accurate is CANINEBEAT™ AI?
CANINEBEAT™ AI detects canine heart murmurs related to structural heart disease with over 95% sensitivity and specificity. The algorithm was trained and validated on more than 4,000 annotated canine heart sound recordings, with input from nearly 50 veterinary cardiologists across 15 countries.
How do I get the best recording quality for the CANINEBEAT™ AI analysis?

Follow these best practices:

  • Make sure your patient is calm — not panting or barking
  • Record in a quiet environment and avoid talking during the recording
  • Apply the stethoscope chestpiece at appropriate pressure at a cardiac listening location
  • Part the fur so the chestpiece makes full contact with the skin
  • Hold the chestpiece still throughout the recording
  • Avoid any rubbing of the stethoscope against jewelry, clothing, or other surfaces
Can CANINEBEAT™ AI definitively diagnose MMVD?
No. Eko Vet+ provides clinical decision support, including disease stage likelihood estimates, but it does not provide a diagnosis. This is not a diagnosis, only a possible finding. Definitive MMVD staging requires confirmation through diagnostic imaging (e.g., echocardiography or radiography).
The CANINEBEAT™ AI analysis says “No murmur detected.” Does that mean the dog’s heart is normal?
Not necessarily. A "No murmur" result means no murmur was detected in that recording. However, not all heart disease presents with an audible murmur. A complete cardiac auscultation exam is recommended, and further investigation such as echocardiography or radiography may still be appropriate based on your clinical judgment.
The CANINEBEAT™ AI analysis says “Inconclusive.” What does that mean?
The AI was unable to detect clear canine heart sounds in the recording. This is usually a recording quality issue, not a patient issue. Try re-recording using the best practices listed above.
What dog breeds or sizes does CANINEBEAT™ AI support? Can it analyze a recording from a puppy?

CANINEBEAT can provide analysis for all dog breed sizes and ages. After auscultating, you’ll be prompted to select the patient’s breed size (based on the typical weight for that breed), and age.

† CANINEBEAT™ AI analyzes heart sounds and classifies murmur loudness using a modified Levine intensity scale.

‡ Murmur intensity is used to estimate the likelihood of MMVD disease stage based on a large, epidemiological canine study. Disease stage classifications are based on ACVIM guidelines. Definitive staging requires confirmation by diagnostic imaging.
