Welcome! You've found the right place to learn how to use your new CORE 300 Digital Stethoscope. Here's how to get started.
What makes the CORE 300 different: it's two stethoscopes in one.
- Traditional mode works like a standard acoustic stethoscope. No battery or app needed.
- Digital mode adds sound amplification, noise reduction, audio filters, a real-time heart rate display, and the ability to take recordings with the Eko App.
You switch between modes by twisting the tubing at the bell. There is no power button.
1. Download the Eko App
Traditional mode works on its own, but you'll need the Eko App to pair your CORE 300 and unlock the full feature set in Digital mode.* With the Eko App you can:
- Pair the CORE 300 to your mobile device.
- View phonocardiogram (PCG) visualizations of heart sounds.
- Start, save, and share recordings*.
The CORE 300 works with the Eko App (version 6.1 or later).
For iOS: Download the Eko App here.
For Android: Download the Eko App here.
The CORE 300 uses Bluetooth® Low Energy and needs a compatible mobile device. See Eko App system requirements for the latest supported operating systems.
2. Set up the CORE 300
What's in the box
- 1 CORE 300 Digital Stethoscope, with large eartips and an adult-sized diaphragm assembly attached
- 1 USB-C charging cable (USB wall charger not included)
- 2 small silicone eartips
- 1 Quick Start Guide
Your CORE 300 arrives in Traditional mode.
Fit the eartips
- Choose the eartip size that fits you best. Try the small and large eartips to find the most comfortable fit.
- Hold the earpiece so the eartips angle forward, in the direction you are looking, then gently insert the eartips into your ears.
To change eartips:
- Grip the eartip firmly and pull it straight off the earpiece stem.
- Align the new eartip with the stem and press firmly until it's fully seated and locked in place.
Never use the stethoscope without eartips firmly locked in place and covering the metal portion of the earpiece stem.
Switch between Digital and Traditional modes
The mode is set by twisting the tubing, just below the chestpiece. Hold the bell in one hand and twist the tubing with the other. You'll feel a click when it reaches each mode. See Digital and Traditional Modes on the CORE 300 for more details.
| Digital mode | Traditional mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Sound | Amplified, with noise reduction | Acoustic, like a standard stethoscope |
| Audio filters | Yes | No |
| Recordings and Eko App | Yes | No |
| Screen and side buttons | Active | Off |
| Battery needed | Yes | No |
Switching to Traditional mode also conserves battery.
Charge the device
- Connect the CORE 300 to a power source using the included USB-C cable and a USB wall charger (not included).
- The battery indicator shows the charge level.
The CORE 300 can't be used or connected to the Eko App while it's charging. Don't use the device while it is charging. See Device Battery and Charging for more info.
Sleep and wake
In Digital mode, the screen goes dark and the device goes to sleep after about 90 seconds of not being used. A sleeping device isn't broken, and you don't need to pair it again.
To wake it: press the top button once.
To turn Digital mode off completely, twist the tubing to Traditional.
Change the volume
In Digital mode, press the side buttons to raise (+) or lower (–) the volume. There are seven volume levels, and the current level appears briefly on the screen. For the best sound, press the chestpiece firmly against the patient and hold it still.
3. Take a tour of the CORE 300 screen
The screen turns on only in Digital mode.

Audio filters
Each filter emphasizes particular body sounds. Briefly press the top button to cycle through them.
-
All-purpose: a general-purpose setting for everyday listening. Heart rate shows on screen.
- Cardiac: emphasizes heart sounds. After you place the device on the chest, the real-time heart rate appears. [Image: cardiac filter screen]
- Pulmonary: emphasizes breath sounds. [Image: pulmonary filter screen]
The CORE 300 calculates heart rate from heart sounds. It does not have ECG and does not detect or measure heart rhythm.
4. Pair with the Eko App
-
Open the Eko App and follow the prompts to create an account and complete onboarding.
- Twist the CORE 300 to Digital mode. Wake the screen if it's dark.
- Follow the steps in the app to add your device. The stethoscope screen shows "Connect to app" while it waits.
- When pairing succeeds, a Bluetooth icon appears on the stethoscope screen.
If pairing times out, wake the stethoscope and start again. To reconnect later, wake the stethoscope first, then connect in the app.
5. Take your first recording
You'll need to connect the CORE 300 to the Eko App first, and an internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular) is required to save recordings.
-
Twist the CORE 300 to Digital mode.
- Place the chestpiece on the patient and hold it still in one spot.
- Hold the top button for 2 seconds, then release. The screen changes to show that a recording is in progress.
You can also start a recording from the Eko App by tapping Record. To stop early, tap Cancel. Cancelled recordings aren't saved.
After recording, open the Eko App to view the waveform and play the recording back. For the best sound, listen through the CORE 300 earpieces or headphones connected to your phone. Phone and computer speakers can't accurately play low-frequency heart and body sounds.
