Using the CORE 300™ Diaphragm Assembly Kit

The Diaphragm Assembly Kit is available for purchase with your CORE 300 stethoscope as a bundle, or as a separate accessory after you've purchase a CORE 300.

Your CORE 300 is ready to use as shipped. The adult diaphragm assembly already attached to the stethoscope is a working part, not a placeholder. You only need to swap it in the situations below.

What is a diaphragm assembly?

The diaphragm assembly is the round, dark-rimmed disc at the end of the chestpiece, the part that touches the patient. It screws onto the bell (the metal housing behind it). It works the same way in Digital and Traditional modes.

It comes in two sizes, adult and pediatric. There are no other sizes.

When to swap it

  • You ordered engraving. Your engraving is on the adult diaphragm assembly in the Diaphragm Assembly Kit, not on the stethoscope itself. Swap it onto the stethoscope to use it. See Engraving on your CORE 300™ for more information.
  • You want to examine pediatric patients. Swap to the pediatric diaphragm assembly from the kit.
  • You want to replace your assembly. Install a genuine Eko diaphragm assembly.

If none of these apply, leave the stethoscope as it is and it's ready to use.

What's in the Diaphragm Assembly Kit

The kit comes in its own small box. It contains:

  • One adult diaphragm assembly
  • One pediatric diaphragm assembly
  • Quick Start Guide

There are only two sizes of diaphragm assembly for the CORE 300 and either is meant to be screwed onto the stethoscope, one at a time.

To use the pediatric size, remove the adult assembly and install the pediatric one. Do not flip the stethoscope over. Hold it the same way you normally would.

How to swap your diaphragm assembly

Remove Assembly.pngRemove the current assembly

  1. Hold the bell with one hand, with the diaphragm facing you.
  2. With the other hand, twist the diaphragm assembly counterclockwise until it releases.

Install Assembly.pngInstall the new assembly

  1. With the diaphragm facing you, place the new assembly onto the bell.
  2. Turn it clockwise until it is fully tightened.

Tighten it by hand as far as it will go. A loose assembly can affect sound quality, so check that it is snug if you carry the stethoscope in a pocket or bag. Store the assembly you aren't using in a clean place.

Check that the assembly is fully tight before each use, especially if the stethoscope has been carried in a pocket or bag. Inspect the diaphragm and stop using it if it looks damaged, cracked, or punctured.

Troubleshooting

My stethoscope isn't engraved.

The stethoscope itself is never engraved. Check for the small separate box with your diaphragm assembly kit and swap the engraved assembly onto the stethoscope. If you ordered engraving and can't find the box, contact Eko Support. For more help with engraving, see Engraving on your CORE 300™.

A diaphragm assembly came off or feels loose.

Place it back on the bell, with the diaphragm facing you, and turn it clockwise until fully tight. If it keeps loosening, or a part is lost, contact Eko Support.

The sound is weak or distorted, or I hear a whistle.
  1. Confirm the diaphragm assembly is fully tight.
  2. Inspect the diaphragm. If it looks damaged, cracked or perforated, stop using it and contact Eko Support.
  3. Check that the ear tips are clean and pointing forward.
  4. Try Traditional mode. If the sound is poor in both modes, the cause is usually a shared part (diaphragm assembly, ear tips or tubing). If only Digital sounds wrong, see the Digital mode troubleshooting steps.
Can I use another brand's diaphragm?

No. Use only genuine Eko parts, which are available at ekohealth.com/collections/accessories. Non-Eko parts can damage the device or reduce acoustic performance.
